भारतीय डाक विभाग में देश भर के विभिन्न डाक विभाग के सर्किलों में 40,889 ग्रामीण डाक सेवकों (जीडीएस) की भर्ती के लिए आवेदन मांगे हैं। जीडीएस की इस भर्ती के तहत ब्रांच पोस्टमास्टर (बीपीएम), असिस्टेंट ब्रांच पोस्टमास्टर (एबीपीएम) और डाक सेवक के पद भरे जाएंगे। इन रिक्तियों में से सबसे अधिक 7,987 वेकेंसी उत्तर प्रदेश सर्किल के लिए है। इसके बाद दूसरे सबसे अधिक 3,167 रिक्तियां तमिलनाडु, 3,036 कर्नाटक और 2,480 आंध्र प्रदेश सर्किल के लिए हैं। विभाग की ओर से इस भर्ती के लिए आवेदन की ऑनलाइन प्रक्रिया 27 जनवरी से शुरू हो चुकी है, जो 16 फरवरी तक चलने वाली है। इसमें अप्लाई करने वाले उम्मीदवार 17 से 19 फरवरी के बीच अपने आवेदन फॉर्म में संशोधन भी कर सकते हैं। इस भर्ती के लिए आयुसीमा 18 से 40 वर्ष रखी गई है। वहीं आरक्षित वर्ग को आयुसीमा में नियमानुसार छूट दी जाएगी।

GDS Job Profile for Dak Sevak
- The Job Profile for Dak Sevaks will include all functions of viz sale of stamps and stationary, conveyance and delivery of mail and any other duties assigned by postmaster/ sub postmaster including IPPB work in the Department Post Offices/ RMS.
- The work performed for IPPB will not be included in the calculation of TRCA, since the same is being done an incentive basis.
- Select candidates may also have to assist Post Masters/ Sub Post Masters in Managing the Smooth functioning of department post Offices and do marketing, business procurement or any other work assigned by the Post Master or IPO/ASPO/SPos/ SSPOs/SRM/SSRM etc.
